The Legend

Publications of the Road Map Collectors Association 1995 – 2015

This page provides access to back issues of the Legend. Please note that all issues are stored as PDF files, and are typically between 1Mb and 5Mb in size, so may take some time to download on slow connections. The last year’s issues are intentionally not yet online, although their content is included in the index.

If you are looking for specific content, it’s best to use the browser’s own search or find function, as the magazines are listed in date order. Otherwise, you can find a specific issue from the dates in the table below. We have kept to the date on the front page, which is sometimes a little earlier than the actual magazine was dispatched!

Volume 11.5, Special Edition

Editor: Joel Windmiller (#51)
Note:
This special edition was put out to let members know that the club is still alive and well, despite the long delay in issuing the newsletter. This special edition is printed on an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper, folded into thirds with the mailing address and postage on one panel. No envelope was used, and no additional inserts (such as a color map sheet) were included. It is titled “Special Edition, Volume 11.5, RMCA Bulletin.”

Addendum The earliest known oil company road maps of Hawaii are from 1955. According to Gousha’s archive records, Chevron, Union Oil and Associated (Flying A) ordered the map. It’s safe to assume that these three were the primary gasoline marketers on the islands pre-statehood. Pan-American World Airways also ordered the 1955 edition as a promotional item. An important component of these Gousha maps was the natural color relief map of each island that came with the acquisition of Jeppesen in 1954.
