World’s Fair Maps

Beginning with the 1933-4 Century of Progress in Chicago, road maps were issued for these events. Diverse firms, not just oil companies, issued these advertisements. In addition, some state maps were issued to capitalize on auto traffic passing through.

The Ohio Commission
issued two maps to celebrate the
Century of Progress,
and possibly to drum up excitement for its
upcoming Great Lakes Expo.

Great Lakes Exposition

Relatively unknown, the Great Lakes Exposition was held in Cleveland from 1936 to 1937. Few maps are known.

Golden Gate Exposition

Held in 1939-40, the Golden Gate Exposition is relatively unknown in comparision with the first New York World’s Fair. In addition to the Signal map illustrated below, a Shell Oil map is also reported.
