As you may have read, this year will be a major turning of events for our organization. First, we have established a relationship with the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA which will allow us to have an exhibit of RMCA at the museum. Secondly, we have been working with the museum for them to host us this year and next for our annual conventions. This is by far one of the finest venues we have been associated with regarding the quality of the facility and the common interest in the automobile and road development.
The schedule this year will be as follows:
Thursday, September 20: arrive at the Comfort Inn at the Park, 1200 Mae Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036, (717) 566-2050. We have a block of rooms reserved at a discount rate of $99 plus tax. You must make your room reservation before August 20!!!! Make sure you indicate you are with RMCA for all the nights you stay; if you have any issues ask for Ms. Toomey. Those that would like to can have their room open for room-to-room trading.
Friday, September 21: Dealers only arrive at the museum at 8:00 a.m. for set up as doors open to the public at 9:00. It is located at 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, PA 17033 P: 717-566-7100. Closing will be at 5 p.m. Return to the hotel for a catered dinner, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation by our guest speaker, Robert Spencer from the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education at the University of Southern Maine.
Saturday, September 22 Dealers only arrive at the museum by 8:30 a.m. Our map trading, selling, buying will end at 2 p.m. Pack up immediately so we can then have our general meeting for all RMCA members to conclude by 4 or earlier.
Dealer tables at the RMCA Convention will be on the second floor in two adjacent areas using the rotunda area and a room just off the elevators. Due to the limited space, the maximum table layout is around 25, so registration will be limited to 1 table per dealer with a deadline for registrations to be received by July 15. Dealers will be contacted in the order in which registrations are received for additional tables, only if space allows. Once registration forms are available (next Legend and on the web site) you should register quickly as we expect to have a good number of dealers that will want to show at this great location. Dealer’s registration fee includes admission to the museum.
Non-dealers attending will be able to not only see the RMCA area but can tour the museum for the admission cost of $12 for adults, $11 for Seniors (61+) and $1 less for AAA members. To help offset the admission fee, all non-dealer attendees will receive a voucher that is worth 10 free maps from the $1 table which has hundreds to choose from or 10 free State Official maps. We will have our State Official map table at the entrance. Please make sure you bring some from your travels. Hopefully, this will encourage those who are visiting the museum to also venture to the second floor to visit the RMCA dealers.
Start planning now to attend and see thousands of maps and interact with other collectors about our unique hobby. If you might be flying there are several airports within 2 hours or so drive. This is the first time for RMCA to hold its convention in the northeast so all you members in this area here is your chance to come and see what you have been missing if you have not previously attended.
