FLORIDA OFFICIAL MAPS
Notes:
Starting in 1972 (possibly 1971), a new base map by Gousha was used. These maps generally have a copyright date at the bottom of the back cover, and a date indication at the bottom of the map legend. The notation at the bottom of the map legend is indicated on this list with brackets {}, i.e. {1972 Ed A}. From 1972 (or 1971) until 1980, two maps were issued each year – edition A and edition B. From 1981 to the present, only one map was issued each year. Generally, the legend contains a two-year date, such as 1987-88, whereas the copyright date on the back cover is a single year. This list has chosen to use the single-year copyright dates. Thus, for example, two separate years are listed for 1987 and 1988, instead of two varieties of one date (1987-88 A and 1987-88 B).
According to FL-DOT, no map was produced in 1997. Starting in 1998, an “Official State Transportation Map” has been “produced through an innovative public-private partnership between Florida’s Department of Transportation, VISIT FLORIDA, private contractors, and the map’s sponsors” (taken from the 1999 edition). These maps state that they are published by the Florida DOT and distributed by VISIT FLORIDA. Universal Studios appears to be the primary sponsor for these maps, with a cover photo on each edition at least through 2004.
