INDIANA OFFICIAL MAPS

Notes:
A letter from the Indiana DOT states that the first map was published in 1930 (this may have been the first for public distribution, as earlier maps have been reported), and continued annually until 1942. No map was produced in 1943 or 1944 because of World War II. They state that a map was produced annually between 1945 and 1962, so it is possible that there may be 1954 and 1955 editions, although neither one is known to exist.

Several of the covers described as “clr photo” appear to be highly retouched photographs, and look very much like drawings.

Apparently 2020 is the last year for a printed highway map for Indiana, with this notice posted to the INDOT website: “For many years, INDOT stocked and distributed free roadway maps in interstate rest areas and provided them to businesses and citizens as requested. INDOT and the Indiana Destination Development Corp. decided in 2021 to no longer print the annual state roadway map. INDOT distributed remaining maps until the supply was exhausted. With most travelers now using GPS or smartphone map apps, there is far lower consumer demand for printed roadway maps, but INDOT continues to update the map for our website.”
